Dreaming of the Desert
This weekend I escaped to the desert of southern Utah. A place I never really took note of until I moved to the state three years ago. Slowly I became obsessed with the rock formations and colors.
It brought me here, to Ivins located just outside of St. George.
The irony of this starts when I created a vision board not long before knowing my move to Utah was about to take place. I remember ripping pages of an old Vogue highlighting a designer’s home in Colorado with a vast open image of sage brush and minerals. Something about the texture caught my eye.
Now here I am, driving through the desert with a camera in my hand slowly lurking among the blacktop capturing different angles of the formations towering above me.
I stayed at the Inn Santa Clara which is a renovated barn designed tastefully for comfort. It’s in a small farming neighborhood outside of St. George. I loved being right by a local farm stand (that I regret not photographing) where I browsed local produce, treats and bought a jar of jam.
I’ve been leaning into authenticity lately and this place did the trick! Each room unique and tied to the farming history of the area. I loved seeing the farms and old buildings filled with history.
